WHAT IS ACADEMIC COUNSELLING?

The University Counselling and careers unit helps to develop program designed to assist studensts in making the right academic choices. Academic counselling programme develops students competencies in self-knowledge and educational planning.

WHY ACADEMIC COUNSELLING?

Academic counseling is a central key to any student's success in university. The University Counsellor will help to:

• Monitor students academic progress especially student's CGPA.
• offer students connection with faculty and administrators.
• improve decision making in academics
• help students to adapt to their new academic environment through orientation services.
• provide guidance towards course registration.
• provide academic remediation services
• assist students in providing necessary informations needed about their departments
• help students acquire academic study skills.

HOW TO ACHIEVE ACADEMIC SUCCESS ?

On resumption be it as a fresher or stayllite:

• get the course outline and needed materials for the semester
• visit the university website to register your courses before it is too late.
• set a CGPA target needed for the semester.
• Read the courses ahead of lectures and ask question in class when confused during lectures.
• go for tutorials organized by your fellow fellow students.
• have atleast 70-80% attendance in class.
• When it is time for the mid-semester test, score atleast average of the total. e.g if 30 score atleast 15, and if 20 score at atleast 10.
• When exam is far approaching, read extentively and test yourself with past questions on the course.
• Avoid being involved in examination malpractice
• Read examination questions carefully before attempting them
